It's That Time Again! Here's Your Fall Skincare Guide
The new season is here and it’s time to transition your skincare from summer to fall. Okay, summer didn’t exactly shine this year but as the temperature inevitably drops and the rain and winds pick up stamina, your skin will need some extra TLC. Below we have rounded up 8 tips to help you keep your complexion happy, healthy and hydrated.
Fall skincare tip #1: Factor in humectants
Glycerin is an underrated skincare ingredient. It works like a magnet to attract water into the skin to keep it soft, supple and looking radiant. Wishful Thirst Trap Serum packs a moisturising by combining glycerin with the most famous humectant, hyaluronic acid. Use it morning and night under your moisturiser.
Fall skincare tip #2: Ramp up the moisturise
Which brings us nicely onto the subject of moisturiser. For spring and summer a lightweight lotion or cream is often enough (unless you have very genetically dry skin). Come fall, however, it’s worth looking to a richer cream like Dr. Barbara Sturm Face Cream Rich which contains the antioxidant purslane known for reducing redness and stimulating the production of collagen. At night, look to a hardworking cream like Goldfaden MD’s Wake Up Call that will make skin appear firmer and feel stronger, leaving skin supple, smooth and hydrated.
Fall skincare tip #3: Go easy on exfoliation
If your skin is sensitive go easy on exfoliation, as harsh winds and cooler temperatures can leave your complexion irritated. Freck’s Cactus Water Cleansing Lactic Acid Toner combines lactic acid, a hydrating AHA that gently exfoliates the skin with cactus flower extract to intensely hydrate and kelp extract to reduce inflammation.
Fall skincare tip #4: Mist more
Keep your complexion moist throughout the day by keeping a face mist close at hand. Skin & Tonic Rose Mist is made of organic flower water combined with aloe vera and glycerin.
Fall skincare tip #5: Love your lip balm
Dr. Lipp Nipple Balm is a cold-weather hero for skin. You can use it on lips, cuticles and dry patches to soothe and nourish the skin. Want to warm up your pout? Try Huda Beauty's Silk Balm Spicy Thermo Plumping Lip Balm.
Fall skincare tip #6: Add an eye cream
The skin around our eyes is much thinner which is why it tends to age faster. Look to an eye cream to bolster this area, especially during harsher weather. Freck’s So Jelly Cactus Eye Jelly is a lightweight lotion with plant extracts to hydrate, plump and brighten.
Fall skincare tip #7: Boost your Vitamin C
If your complexion tends to look a bit sallow and lacklustre during the autumn and winter months, lean on Vitamin C. The antioxidant ingredient doesn’t just help to bolster your skin’s defences against the elements, but it brightens hyperpigmentation to leave the complexion look more even and radiant. We love Lixirskin Vitamin C Paste and Ren Radiance Vegan Glow Daily Vit C Gel Cream for a hit of this hardworking vitamin.
Fall skincare tip #8: Take time to Mask
Once or twice a week, add a face mask into your routine. Not only is it a treat for your skin, if you use the time to sit, relax and either read a book, listen to a podcast or even meditate you’ll look and feel better in minutes. For a welcome surge of moisture, try Patchology’s 5-Minute Flashmasque it’s packed with hydrating hyaluronic acid and Vitamin B5 that helps to boost your skin’s elasticity.
