Now You Know: This Is How to Make Your Lipstick Stay Put
The secret to making your lipstick last longer is surprisingly simple. In 5 easy steps, you can apply a lipstick that will go the distance.
We all know how frustrating it is to apply a lipstick and for it to disappear after your mid-morning coffee break. Or, to constantly be on lipstick watch throughout the day.
Now, it is worth noting that the lipstick finish you choose will affect the longevity - matte textures will last longer than creams or glosses that have the tendency to slip and slide, but regardless of the finish you choose if you follow our guide your lipstick will last longer.
1) Exfoliate Your Lips
Prep is key! Start by exfoliating your lips, this will remove any unwanted dry skin and create a smooth base onto which your lipstick can glide on. Take a little Wishful Yo Glow Mini Enzyme Scub, €20, and massage it into your lips and rinse.
2) Apply a Lip Balm
Before you apply your makeup slather on some lip balm and leave it to sink in. Your lips will be soft, smooth, and nourished by the time you come to apply your lipstick.
3) Prime the Lips
The best way to prime your lips is with a lip pencil that is the same or a similar colour to your lipstick of choice. Instead of just using the pencil to outline your pout, colour in your lips with the pencil as well. This acts as an insurance for your lipstick, because while matte lipsticks are pretty hardwearing if you find your glossy or cream formula lifts the pencil will hold on.

4) Layer Up
You can apply the lipstick straight from the wand, but if you use a small fluffy brush you can apply lighter layers. Blot with a tissue, then apply another layer and blot. Repeat this process until you have the density you want.

5) Lock It In
If you're wearing a matte lipstick, you can dust a little blusher in a similar colour on top - we love GloWish Cheeky Vegan Blush Powder, €21. A little like locking your makeup in with powder, this will help your lipstick last longer.
